| David Madison’s career in sports photography began as a hobby while in high school, progressed into part-time freelance work for the university athletic department while he was in college (Stanford University, BA Architecture ‘74), and then into a full-time profession encompassing a wide range of the sports photography universe. One of David’s areas of particular expertise is Olympic sports; and he has photographed eleven Olympic Games: Five Summer Olympics (Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000), and Six Winter Olympics (Sarajevo 1984, Calgary 1988, Albertville 1992, Lillehammer 1994, Nagano 1998, Salt Lake 2002). His Olympic images have been seen worldwide in magazines like Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. Major Olympic sponsors, including Kodak, IBM, and the US Postal Service have used his work in their Olympic promotions. David's style of imagery tends towards conceptual and symbolic renditions of sport with a particular eye for strong and graphic compositions. He is considered by many in the industry to be one of the world's leading creators of sports stock imagery, and his work is licensed globally through the world's premier photo agencies. David's background in sports event photography combined with his experience in the advertising world give him a strong ability to create unique and authentic imagery. |
